Aromatherapy Training Courses

Retweet

Aromatherapy is popular as a pastime and can now add value to certain careers as well. There are many aromatherapy training courses on offer and they can be of use to those wishing to use aromatherapy for personal reasons or for professional reasons. Aromatherapy can be a useful addition to a number of areas including massage and spa treatments. Aromatherapy training courses can cover enough material to become a professional aromatherapist or just enough to enjoy using aromatherapy oils at home. There are full time college courses that earn qualifications as well as part time classes that do not result in any certification. Aromatherapy training courses can be taken at home or as part of a home study course but practical training is always the most useful.

Aromatherapy training courses can cover subjects like how to create and blend aromatherapy oils. The uses of base notes, middle notes and top notes can be an important part of the process and need to be understood fully. The health and safety aspects of aromatherapy are often extensively covered on an aromatherapy training course including the dangers of certain oils for pregnant women. Flammability and storing oils in the correct containers is also covered. The uses of various oils are probably one of the most important parts of an aromatherapy training course as they all have different effects. Combinations of certain oils can have positive or negative effects and it is valuable for anyone wishing to use aromatherapy oils to have at least a basic knowledge of which oils are compatible.

Aromatherapy Blending for Aroma

Retweet

In order to produce an inviting scent, aromatic aromatherapy essential oils are often blended together. This blending is an art. The entire aim of aromatic aromatherapy blending is to create a pleasing fragrance, although therapeutic advantages can also be gained.

Although the smell of the blend is the main focus, the health and safety aspects of blending is also of concern as some oils can be hazardous in their concentrated form. For some people with particular medical conditions there are oils that can cause adverse reactions. It can take years to master the art of aromatic aromatherapy blending as there are so many oils to choose from and the possible combinations are endless.

Producing an aromatherapy perfume is a bit like composing music. It combines base notes, middle notes and top notes to form a pleasing aromatic experience using essential oils that go together well without competing with one another and which lasts the perfect amount of time.

Aromatherapy blending in order to produce a perfume can sometimes use synthesized chemicals that smell like essential oils. The use of chemicals over essential oils is often because they are cheaper and more reliable in quality. Personally I think that this defeats the whole purpose of aromatherapy blending. The natural oils may not be so consistent but they win hands down with bio-energy.

Depending on the particular aromatherapy product, blends often contain alcohol, carrier oils, herbs, water and of course essential oils to make unique blends. There are various categories of essential oils such as minty, woodsy, floral and oriental. Although they can also blend well with those in other categories, oils in the same category usually work well together. Various new scents are released at irregular intervals as the oils harmonize and evaporate at different stages.

Aromatherapy Blending For Therapeutic Use

Improving an emotional or physical condition is the main object of aromatherapy blending for therapeutic use. A pleasing smell from the blend  would be nice but it is not necessary. Care must be taken to make sure that the oils are not detrimental to other areas of the person being treated, whilst at the same time the blend should combat the specific areas needed.

Discretion must be exercised when selecting the oils to be used. Some oils are not recommended for pregnant women or people with certain medical conditions, for example. In instances where there is more than one ailment to be cured, different oils can be combined to target these conditions but the oils must blend well together in order to reap the benefits. Essential oils have different effects during aromatherapy blending; some are used to energize, others are used to relax and there are kinds that combat against pain.

As you can see aromatherapy blending is an art.

Finding Good Aromatherapy Information

Retweet

Everywhere you look these days’ aromatherapy products, or what purports to be aromatherapy products abound. Aromatherapy is used to promote everything from dish washing soaps to flea collars. So what is aromatherapy? How do I go about finding good aromatherapy information? One of the first pieces of information to understand is that not all aromatherapy products are created equal.

The most important part of any aromatherapy product is an essential oil. The oil will have been derived from whatever plant aroma is being used. So the first piece of information you need to know is that the quality and effectiveness of the product is going depend on the quality of the essential oil. How and where it is grown, how it was handled post-harvest and very importantly, how the oil was extracted. Oils can be produced by a distillation process of the entire plant or of specific parts of the plant and usually distillation of the leaves or flowers produce a much stronger and more pure extract of the essential oils.

Other important factors to be considered are the pressure and temperature used in the extraction process. Dr Gary Young of Young Living Oils, for example, has developed a low temperature and pressure method that retains the maximum of the value of the essential oil. It takes longer and costs more, but the increase in quality and effectiveness is worth it. Dr Young is also very particular about his raw materials. He grows a large proportion of the herbs he uses, all organically, and is very exacting when obtaining the rest.

Another method of producing oils used in many of the less expensive type of products is to squeeze the oils from the plants. According to aromatherapy information this method produces oils that cost less, but provide less benefit as well as aroma. However, it is claimed that this method makes aromatherapy more affordable and provides benefits, although limited, to those on a stricter budget.

Aromatherapy Information Can Be Mixed

Depending on its intended use, aromatherapy can receive mixed reviews, as some who use it simply for the scent swear by how burning an aromatherapy candle can help them relax or feel less stressed. Those who use the method for massage claim the scent alone does not produce the desired effects. To achieve the full effects of aromatherapy, the oils need to be massaged into the skin while the olfactory nerves pick up and scent and join in a two-pronged approach to relieve tension.

A bit of research into aromatherapy information will reveal that the strength and purity of an essential oil affects the quantity of oil used in a particular product as well as how well it is made a part of that product. If the oil is weak, more of it will be required for a similar result. Obviously a much better and stronger oil is produced by distillation, (especially low temperature and pressure distillation as produced by Young Living Oils), than the squeezing process.

The effects of aromatherapy, as the skeptics will point out, cannot be explained and quantified scientifically, but then neither can love! Aromatherapy information has been gathered and written about over millennia. How effective it is will depend on the individual being treated, the quality of the essential oil and how it is applied.

For more information, there is a very good book I can recommend that is packed with aromatherapy information. It is called “Aromatherapy – Learn The Power Of Aromatherapy” by Rachel Adams. It is very affordable and you can get it HERE. Aromatherapy information explained. Use it to enhance your life with aromatherapy.
